Why Should You Brush?
You like your teeth, right? It’s nice being able to chew food and smile comfortably. When you choose not to brush, you’re doing your oral health a major disservice. Tooth decay, plaque and more can build up to the point where cavities can become commonplace. The last thing you want is a mouth suffering from cavities. Skipping over these problem areas because of laziness isn’t going to ward off further cavity development.
Dental diseases can run rampant in your mouth by choosing not to brush your teeth. Think of all the food you’ve eaten in the past 24 hours alone – tiny remnants remain on your teeth and tongue when you opt not to brush. If you are brushing but aren’t dedicating yourself to doing it properly, cavities can still become a problem.
The Proper Toothbrush Technique
So, what is the correct way to brush your teeth? Heed this steps to practice perfect brushing.
- Make sure you’re using a toothbrush with soft bristles.
- Place the toothbrush along your gumline at a 45-degree angle. The bristles should come into contact with the tooth surface and gumline.
- Gently brush the outer surfaces using a circular and rolling motion.
- Repeat the previous step for all of your teeth.
- Be sure to brush the inner tooth surfaces with the same circular motion.
- Reach the back of your teeth by tilting the toothbrush vertically and using up and down strokes.
- Use a back and forth motion for the biting surfaces of your teeth.
- Don’t forget your tongue – brush from back to front.
As you can see, there’s nothing to it – all it takes is dedication and a willingness to get your teeth looking and feeling healthy.
